Comfort Breaks
Our aim is to provide foster care placements that replicate the structure of a residential provision, with high levels of day to day therapeutic and behaviour management support. We recognise that being a foster carer to children with a wide range of difficulties can be isolating and at times extremely challenging.
To this end, we aim to provide a wider ‘family’ to ensure that our fostering families have regular planned comfort breaks. The comfort break carers then become key figures in the children’s lives, which expands their support networks for life.
Our Comfort Break carers also receive a generous package which includes:
- Allowances of £129.80 per day, £259.60 for the weekend
- Paid mileage
- Additional birthday and Christmas allowance
- Paid Foster Talk memberships which provides independent advice, legal insurance, tax benefit and NI advice, 24/7 counselling services, max card discounts, free online events, financial advice, and discounted tax return service.
- Paid DBS and medical checks
- Paid access to 130+ online fostering specific training courses
- Fortnightly carer support sessions
- Twice weekly drop-in sessions with a qualified therapist
- Celebration and diversity events
- Planned fortnightly 1:1 time with a qualified therapist
- Telephone advice line
- Group chat forum
- x 3 supervisions per year by a supervising social worker, or as required
Comfort break carers collect children from their school on a Friday afternoon and take them back to their primary carers on a Sunday evening. They also offer overnight stays during school holidays. Our experience shows this has a positive effect on the wellbeing of, and long-term relationships between, our foster carers and our foster children.
